Soul and spirit are not the same thing. Treating them as identical makes reading the New Testament far more confusing than it needs to be.
Paul lays out our three-part nature in one verse: spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Your soul is your mind, will, and emotions. Your spirit was made perfect and sealed the moment you were born again (Ephesians 1:13). It is the real you.
As believers, we renew our mind to see transformation in our soul so it comes in line with the truth of what’s been accomplished in our spirit already.
